I sat in an XLR yesterday and noticed that the controls for the seat back were reversed. Pushing the seat back control forward made the seat back go recline while pressing it backwards moved the seat back forward. That can’t be factory, is this a common phenomenon or is this like a black triangle pokemon booster pack and worth $100,000?!

I’m guessing the connector behind the switch is easy to put back in upside down?

My E39 had one window for which the switch was backward. All others were normal. I blamed the shop the prior owner had replace that window regulator. I ended liking that bit nonsense in an otherwise very sensible German car, so I left it that way.
